“It is only when we begin to relax with ourselves that meditation becomes a transformative process.” Pema Chödrön
A regular meditation practice is a way of living mindfully. It allows you to re-connect to yourself and live with greater awareness and a deeper sense of purpose. Sandra, introduces you to the easy-to learn Breath-Meditation and Somatic Meditation practices. These methods aim to build your inner awareness, connecting you to your deeper self, whilst also releasing stress and tension in the mind and body.
Somatic Meditation Classes will teach you how to breathe mindfully and control the chatter in your mind, allowing you to come to a deep stillness. From this deep sacred space, internal healing can occur. The somatic approach of meditation is particularly effective for healing trauma as it gently guides you to live in the present moment, reclaiming your life and freeing you from these old wounds. The practice is based on original Tibetan and Taoist teachings and offers a loving approach to fundamentally embrace yourself with a new sense of acceptance and self-love.
The Body Awareness and meditation classes are set in a safe and relaxed environment where you can experience being fully immersed in the present moment. In order to maximise its psychological and physical benefits the practice itself is one that requires dedication, commitment and patience therefore a trusting, open mind and heart is the best way to approach the practice.
Sandra teaches the foundations of Somatic Meditation, which can be easily integrated into other meditation and mindfulness practices. Even for experienced meditators, these teachings are a valuable addition to current meditation practices, as they offer a unique approach to meditating from a deeper felt sense and body awareness. Through Somatic Meditation we connect with the inherent wakefulness that is already present in the body. These teachings are inspired by the most advanced teachings of Tibetan Buddhism which state that true realisation is found in the body and nowhere else.
Sandra, influenced by the Buddhist teachers Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Reginald Ray, Pema Chödrön and Thich Nhat Hanh, will share with you her lived experience from her meditation training which started during her Somatic Psychotherapy and Breath-Therapy training in Switzerland (in the 1990’s). Both of these somatic therapy training programs have had a strong base in mindfulness and somatic awareness practices and have been influenced by teachers such as Peter Levine, Fritz Pearls, Alexander Lowen, Ilse Middendorf and Jack Lee Rosenberg.
Sandra has enjoyed developing her body awareness since the age of 15 and has been practicing various forms of martial arts and dance ever since. She hopes you will enjoy meditation and its variety of health and wellness benefits as much as she has.
Classes are currently held in Brisbane and will also be available at the Sunshine Coast soon.
